About Us

Hey everyone!

Dee and I both enjoy writing and felt that a blog would be of great help in keeping in touch with our friends and family from out of state. Again, we are grateful that you have visited Hope Aflame and look forward to hearing from each of you…

We currently reside in Birmingham, AL, where Dee is scheduled to complete the PhD program in Mathematics (Dynamical Systems) by this August. We moved here from Cleveland, TN, where I attended and recently graduated from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary (formerly COGTS).  And, quite amazingly, the Lord has opened up a door for us to return to Cleveland this Fall in order for Dee to join the Math faculty of Lee University.

For the past 2 yrs we have been attending Alabaster Church of God (and completed a pastoral internship there in the summer of 08′ under Bishop Robert Barnes). In this local assembly, we have met so many new friends beside whom we labor in efforts to advance God’s Kingdom.  Over the last few months, we have been preparing for the upcoming transition this summer.  We’re house-hunting, prayerfully considering the schools to which I will apply for 2011 and excited about some possible upcoming ministry opportunities.

Dee and I have quite different theological backgrounds. While, for the most part, she was raised in a Christian home, my family was not affiliated with a local church. Her family has strong ties with the Southern Baptist fellowship, while the only fellowship of which I am familiar, since entering the Kingdom in 98’, is the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). However, I think such contrasting backgrounds help us to ask different questions, which add a lot of (helpful) flavor to our theological reflections. Dee is truly my dearest theological dialogue partner. She continually challenges me to “give an account for the hope that lies within” in word and deed; knowing that our spirituality is grounded in the convergence of what we know, who we are and what we do.

Peace,

Shannon

Hey!

Well, this blog has been up and going for some time now and I haven’t written anything in this section.  So I thought I would stop by and say “hi” to everyone.  Thank all of you who participate and read this blog.  Your comments mean so much to us – more than you know.  We hope this blog is something that will bless everyone who is involved.

I am currently working on a Ph.D. program which has me very busy.  However, I have been so blessed by reading and participating in this blog, even in the midst of busy-ness.  Shannon always encourages me to participate, and I am thankful that he values my ideas and opinions even to the point of asking me to express them here.

What a blessing and gift God has given us in friendship and community – even this blogging community.

May God bless you all,

Dee

What an awesome testimony. Almost like reading about myself. I am slop faced right now :!:

My late husband, Wayne, and I were involved in several ministries involving the addicted. As a matter of fact, he was once director of Turning Point where your dad found God. Your testimony reminds me of how much I miss ministering to those who are bound by drugs and has once again stirred up a desire within me to persue it. I love sharing my testimony of God’s precious grace and mercy on me.

Peace and Love to all

The more we get to know you both, the more I am reminded of God’s goodness.
God is continually offering His love, forgiveness, wisdom and grace, but so many cannot see it or choose to reject it. I am so thankful that you were receptive to Him and His desire for you. You are a wonderful friend and influence on Sonny, our youth and all you come in contact with. Thank you for that!
I see you investing and pouring yourself into people every week, which is what we should all strive to do to return to the holiness we say is necessary! You two definitely have a gift of edification.
Love to you both

PS: Thanks for taking time to visit me, it lifted my spirits!!

Connie,

Thanks for your encouragement. :)

Please continue to fan the flames of your passion for such ministry. I think that the church too often falls prey to “out of sight, out of mind,” when it comes to those hurting around us… We need to be awakened to the reality of such strongholds and intentionally reach folks who have convinced themselves that their situations are hopeless.

Peace

What’s up guys? I’ve heard that ya’ll will be coming into town for a revival at St. Matthews in the next couple of weeks. I wanna make a reservation to hang out with ya’ll at some point during your stay. Let’s hook up and grap some coffee at The Edge or something. I also wanted to remind you both what a blessing you are to me and Wendy. I know we don’t get to talk much, but it feels good to know you have people praying for you. Know that we are doing the same for you! God bless you guys.
